Marble disc with hide strips

Ötzi had a piece of equipment whose use remains a mystery: It’s a small disc made of Dolomite marble with a hole in the middle through which a hide strip has been threaded. This forms a loop to which other hide strips were tied.

Perhaps this object was used simply as spare repair material.

Marble disc with hide strips

Others believe it was a lucky charm or an amulet for magical rites, and that the Iceman perhaps had some knowledge of magic!
